Military Applications

Portable Marksmanship Systems

Oakwood’s military target systems bring a higher level of instant feedback to precision shooting, marksmanship training and weapon/ammunition research and development. The main benefit is immediate feedback on the exact location of a shot.

Our systems are simple to use – simply shoot through the target located downrange (photo shown on right). Within a split second, the shots are displayed on the computer screen. No more walking downrange to check targets. No more squinting through a spotting scope hoping to see new bullet holes. And best of all…

Electronic targets provide accurate shot data and eliminate pit duty.

No more pit duty! Our target systems use multiple sensors, arranged in different patterns, depending on the application. When a bullet generating a supersonic shockwave passes near the sensors, each sensor sends a signal that is processed by high speed electronics. The shot information then processed by Oakwood’s software and the position of each shot is then displayed on a computer next to the shooter. The system supports both single lane and multi-lane configurations.

Common Applications

Typical applications of the system have included long-range sniper training, quality assurance testing for weapons and ammunition as well as R&D testing by the military as well as manufacturers. Our system is currently used by the US Army, US Navy, Canadian Department of National Defense and several top tier military weapons manufacturers.

Research and Development Systems

Oakwood’s R&D systems are being used by key portions of the US military to test weapons, ammunition and related equipment.

Portable BC Measurement SystemBCMS

Measuring a bullet’s ballistic coefficient is a crucial part of crucial determining its long range capabilities. This system measures and records not only the point of impact of every shot, but also the BC.  BCMS screenshotThe hardware consists of a portable 4’X4’ cube target with 8 acoustic sensors, a portable Target Station with data radio and 8 hour battery, a portable Muzzle Velocity Station, Magnetospeed chronograph, portable weather station (measuring temperature, humidity and barometric pressure), as well as a firing line access point.  The bullet’s muzzle velocity and velocity (measure at the downrange target) is used to accurately determine the bullet’s BC.

Single Lane Cube R&D Target SystemCube with TS

This system is designed to measure and record the following information for long range testing of weapons and ammunition.  Data collected includes point of impact, downrange bullet velocity and rate of fire.  The hardware consists of a portable 4’X4’ cube target frame with 8 acoustic sensors, a portable Target Station with data radio and 8 hour battery, as well as a firing line access point.  Our R&D version of our software is included which provides the ability to export statistics on each shot group.

Single Lane H-Bar LOMAH R&D SystemPortable h-bar

The H-Bar™ can detect and locate shots from supersonic bullets with a speed at the target of at least 1,200 feet per second. The unit is designed to be portable and can be used with fully automatic weapons.  The combination of acoustic sensors, temperature sensors and electronics produce accuracy levels of +/- 5 mm throughout the center scoring area. The system is capable of detecting both hits and misses and is designed to work on a stationary target where the bullet is fired within 15 degrees perpendicular to the target.  An 8 hour battery pack and data radio, to transmit information via Wi-Fi between the Target Station and firing line are included.  Our R&D version of our software is included which provides the ability to export statistics on each shot group.

Muzzle Velocity Add-On ModuleVelocity station

Designed to be used in conjunction with existing Cube Target systems.  Includes a Velocity Station and the R&D version of our software is included which provides the ability to export statistics on each shot group.  Designed to connect with existing Model 57 lightscreens.
